秋晴れの蓼科でTR3A幌張り
Fitting the Soft Top on a Triumph TR3A under the Autumn Sun of Tateshina
幌を張るのは、春か秋の暖かい日が最適と言われています。
夏に張ると、気温が高く生地が柔らかいため、かなり強く張らないと冬にはダルんでしまいます。
逆に冬は幌が硬く縮んでしまい、相当温めなければ綺麗に張れません。
It is often said that the best time to fit a soft top is during a mild spring or autumn day.
If fitted in midsummer, the material stretches too easily and will sag loosely once the cold season arrives.
In winter, the fabric becomes stiff and must be thoroughly warmed before it can be stretched neatly into place.
ここ蓼科では、秋の日中の限られた暖かい時間が勝負です。
幌を日向に置いてしっかり温め、柔らかくなったところで午後に一気に張り込みます。
少しコツのいるTR3Aの幌ですが、何度も経験しているので迷うことはありません。
Here in Tateshina, the window of warm daytime sunlight is short during autumn.
We place the hood in the sun to soften it thoroughly, then fit it in one go during the warmer afternoon.
The TR3A top requires a bit of technique, but after many installations, the process feels natural.
今回もテンションやスナップの位置がぴたりと決まり、美しく張り上がりました。
幌のラインもクラシック・ブリティッシュ・ロードスターらしい、張りのある姿に。
しばらくは張りっぱなしにして、生地をしっかり馴染ませていきます。
Once again, the tension and snap alignment came together perfectly,
resulting in a taut and elegant profile—just as a proper British roadster should have.
We’ll keep it fitted for a while to allow the material to settle naturally.
